Getting Started

What is TV-Desi?

TV-Desi is a new broadband IPTV service serving the growing South Asian Diaspora. TV-Desi carries the largest and most varied selection of channels and programming from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal in multiple languages so you can stay connected and keep up on the news, happenings and culture in the homeland. We use proprietary compression technology and a set top box to deliver video content and live television channels via the public internet, to bring broadcast quality video directly to a television in the consumer's home. The technology is easy to use and requires minimal set up. The technology also enables us to deliver video-on-demand and pay per view. Both the technology and the business model has been proven in another sister company, KyLinTV serving the Chinese Diaspora. Our unique strength lies in the fact that we are using proven technology, a proven business model and delivery to the consumer's usual mode of viewing on a television rather than on a small PC screen.

TV-Desi Inc. is a subsidiary of NeuLion Inc. and is based in Plainview, New York.

What TV channels can I enjoy in TV-Desi?

Visit the Watch TV page for a full list of all available Live TV channels on the site. Please note that some channels might not be available in your country (mostly U.S. and Canada) due to rights issues.

Why are some channels not available from my location?

This typically has to do with our channel partners having distribution agreements with third-parties which prevent them from distributing their content in a given country/countries, in which case we're obligated contractually to geo-block this channel from this particular territory (thereby closing any access to this content from a given location). You may however be able to access channel/channels in question if you were to travel outside geo-blocked territory.

Having said that, some of the programs of the geo-blocked channels are available to view in the On Demand TV section.

Why are some programs not available or don't match the live broadcast of satellite?

This typically has to do with the fact that not all channels have 100% cleared rights to distribute each and every program it broadcasts over satellite over the Internet globally. Hence, to the extent that there are limitations with respect to distributing a certain program(s) on our network worldwide, we're obligated to block such program(s) from showing and replace with an alternative program(s) from the same channel.

Why are certain popular channels or shows not offered?

While we're constantly striving to add new, better and more content, both in terms of live and on-demand content, we're limited by our license deals with channel and content partners. Having said that, it is work in progress and we've got some exciting new content in the works. So, please stay tuned.

How can I watch free videos?

Click on the Watch TV link on the top menu and then click on Free Videos tab. Once you find the content that you would like to watch, click on the Watch Free button and it will load within the video player.

How to preview any live channel?

Go to Live TV or go to Watch TV and click on Live TV tab. Once you find the content that you would like to watch, click on the Preview button and it will load within the video player.

What is needed to be able to watch TV-Desi on my TV

TV-Desi offers you the best Channel lineup for less than half the cost of satellite or cable. Best of all there is no messy installation, no expensive packages, and no expensive hardware.

You can enjoy our great content directly on your TV by subscribing to one of our packages, and we will send you the TV-Desi Box which connects directly to you TV.

You need to have a high speed internet connection with a minimum 1 Mbps to be able to watch TV-Desi.

How do I subscribe?

If you are not a subscriber to TV-Desi:
  1. Select the product you want.
  2. Click Subscribe Now on any of TV-Desi pages:Home Page, Watch TV, On-Demand
  3. Select the package you want
  4. Sign Up for a new account (if you're a new user) or Sign in if you already have an account.
  5. Select the Pricing Plan
  6. Submit Payment information.
  7. Checkout.
  8. Go to Watch TV and start watching your product.

How do I use a Promotional Code?

To use a promotional code, please follow the steps below:
  1. During the subscription process, on the Pricing Plan selection.
  2. Type the promotional code.
  3. Click Apply Promo Code.
  4. Changes to pricing will be reflected at Checkout and you will be able to confirm before your credit card is charged.
  5. Continue the process of payment until you check out.

  • If you are renting the set-top box, the initial charge will include a deposit for the set-top box.
  • If you had the box delivered, the charge of $19.99 covers the shipping and handling within the US and Canada.

How do I sign in?

Click on "Sign In" on upper right corner of any TV-Desi page. Enter your username and password to Sign In, and then click on the sign in button.

Click on "Sign In" on upper right corner of any TV-Desi page, then click on "Forgot your password?" and enter the email address you used to register. We will send you a temporary password shortly.

My password is not working, what do I do?

Click on "Sign In" on upper right corner of any TV-Desi page, then click on "Forgot your password?" and enter the email address you used to register. We will send you a temporary password shortly.

Then we recommend you update your password. In order to do so, sign into your account using your temporary password, go to My Profile on the top navigation menu, click on the "Account Profile" tab and click on the "Change Password" button of the section you want to update.
Make sure to click on the "Submit" button in order to confirm your changes.

How do I watch in Full Screen?

Go to Watch TV page. Click on the Full Screen icon in the lower right side of the player. Press ESC when you decide to exit Full Screen Mode.

What are the levels of quality for TV-Desi video streams?

TV-Desi Live Channels might vary in stream quality depending on technical limitations for each channel implementation. Most of the channels streams are available in these video qualities (or bit rate)
  • Low Quality streams at approximately 100 Kbps: Offered for users with slow internet connections (low bandwidth)
  • Standard Quality streams at approximately 350/450kbps: This is the standard internet streaming quality and offers good quality at the standard 320x240 video size.
  • High Quality streams at approximately 950 kbps: This is a near-broadcast quality video at full screen on your computer.

How do I adjust my Preferred Video Quality?

Go to the Watch TV page, select the Video Quality you want depending on your Internet Connection Speed (or bandwidth):
  • Low: This is the best video quality if you have a slow Internet connection (low bandwidth). It will offer a lower quality, but if this is your case and you pick a higher video quality you might experience video buffering.
  • Standard: This is the best video quality if you have a medium speed Internet connection (medium bandwidth). This is the standard Internet streaming quality and offers good quality at the standard 320x240 video size.
  • High: This is the best video quality if you have a fast Internet connection (high bandwidth). This is a near-broadcast quality video at full screen on your computer.
We recommend you to try out the different video qualities and pick the one that better suits your Internet connection and optimizes your viewing experience.
Notice that, when available, we will serve you the stream quality that better adjusts to your preference. For example in TV-Desi we only offer high quality On-Demand videos, therefore we will always serve that quality independently of your preference.

How can I enjoy high quality On-Demand videos if I have a low bandwidth Internet connection?

For On-Demand videos, you can click the pause button of the player and then wait until the video downloads completely. Then you will be able to watch it without experiencing buffering.

What time zone are the programs listed in?

All programs dates and times in the Electronic Programming Guide (EPG) reflect time according to your computer time zone setting. For example, if your computer is configured in GMT-4, all times on the EPG will be in GMT-4. This can be confirmed by checking the Now Paying program in the EPG, which should display your current time.

Can I watch my package on my TV at home?

Managing your JumpTV Account

How do I change my password?

Sign into your account using your temporary password, go to "My Profile" on the top navigation menu, click on the "Account Profile" tab and click on the "Change Password" button of the section you want to update.

Make sure to click on the "Submit" button in order to confirm your changes.

How do I update my account information?

Existing JumpTV Subscribers

Why did my JumpTV channels move to TV-Desi?

The basic objective behind the transition to TV-Desi was to provide a better and more customized user experience combined with far more and better South Asian television content than before.

TV-Desi service is different than JumpTV, I'm not used to it.

As with any transition to a new service, certain level of unfamiliarity is expected. Having said that, the more you use the more second-nature it will become. We guarantee you that with continued use; you'll actually come to appreciate new content and new site features we've added on TV-Desi.

Why I cannot watch my South Asian channels on JumpTV.com? Why do I get redirected to TV-Desi?

This behavior is part of the migration from Jumptv.com to tv-desi.com.

Troubleshooting

I cannot find what I want.

If you cannot find what you are looking for it might be helpful to try to navigate by our Site Map if you have difficulty finding any section.

I cannot access the stream. What can be the reason?

Users that are using their work internet connection or so called accelerators, for faster access, might not be able to access the stream. We recommend using a regular open browser such as Internet Explorer. If you have bought a package but still can't access the live channels or on-demand videos, please contact TV-Desi customer support at support@tv-desi.com

I cannot watch a specific channel or program, there is no signal.

This happens from time to time for a number of technical reasons. Please let us know as soon as this happens via our TV-Desi Customer Support section or sending us an email at support@tv-desi.com, so we can look into resolving it right away.

I'm receiving poor quality video or audio stream on a channel or program.

First, try to adjust your Preferred Video Quality on Windows Media Player according to your Internet connect speed (bandwidth). If you already did that and the problem still persists, please let us know as soon as this happens via our TV-Desi Customer Support section or sending us an email at support@tv-desi.com, so we can look into resolving it right away.

I cannot watch a video on the site, I get a message: "You have exceeded the number of digital rights management licenses allowed for this product, please call Customer Support".

In order to protect the premium on-demand content of our site, we only allow customers to have access to each video from a maximum of 3 computers. If you reach that limit, you will get this message. If you need additional access because you have more than 3 computers or you think this is an error, please let us know as soon as this happens via our TV-Desi Customer Support section or sending us an email at support@tv-desi.com, so we can look into resolving it right away.

TV-Desi service was designed to work optimally with Microsoft's Windows, not necessarily with Apple's MAC. Having said that, we do plan to look for possible technical solutions around this in the future.

I'm having difficulty watching content with Safari or other Internet browsers.

My TV-Desi Box (Set-Top-Box) isn't working. Why?

  • Please ensure that your box is plugged in and powered on. The switch on the back should be in the "On" position and you should see the green power light on the front.
  • Make sure your internet cable is plugged in.
  • Test the internet connection on a laptop or computer.
  • If the amber light starts blinking on the box when you turn it on, it means your box is connected to the internet.
  • If you see the TV-Desi home page, this means you are connected to the internet.
  • If you are unable to access any channels, please go into the system configuration page by pressing the ‘Setup’ button on the remote and ensure that the Homepage is set to http://www.tv-desi.net
  • Make sure all access ports are open by visiting http://speed.neulion.com/neulion_tools.html, and clicking on the "Port Access”"links. If any are showing as closed, please contact customer support at support@tv-desi.com

Why do I get constant buffering?

  • If buffering is persistent on all channels, your internet speed may not be sufficient or you may have problems with your router. Please disconnect all other devices from your network and try again.
  • If you are connecting through an internet service provider with a capped bandwidth package, please be aware that the set-top box uses about 1 GB every three hours of usage.
  • Your internet bandwidth available should be at least 1 Mbps constant to the set-top box, with no other devices connected to the network. Higher bandwidth is preferred for the best viewing experience, or if you wish to utilize the set-top box while other devices are accessing the internet on the same network.

I cannot connect to the internet.

If you are having issues getting the set-top box to connect to the internet, please reset the STB and your internet connection.
  • Switch off the box using the button in the back.
  • Disconnect the power cable from the modem.
  • Disconnect the Ethernet cable out of the router or modem.
  • Wait 20-30 seconds.
  • Power on the Modem.
  • Turn router back on (if in use)
  • Connect cable
  • Switch on the STB.

Can I connect using my wireless access point?

To connect the TVDesi box using the wireless adapter, press the ‘Setup’ button on the remote to access the System Configuration menu. Then, access the Network Configuration screen by highlighting it and pressing the Play button on your remote. Then, select the “WLAN” option from this screen by highlighting it and pressing the Play button. This will show the WiFi Setup screen; press the Info button on the remote. This will show the available wireless access points that are within range. Select the appropriate access point. You will then need to type in the password for the access point in the “Key” field to allow the set-top box to connect to the network selected.

How can I tell if I have sufficient internet connection to watch TVDesi?

Please visit http://speed.neulion.com/neulion_tools.html and click on "Neulion Speed Test". If the download speed shows more than 1,000 Kbps (or 1 Mbps), you have sufficient internet to watch TVDesi; however, any additional Internet enabled devices connected to your network can impact bandwidth availability, which may degrade your network’s performance.
